SUSTAINABILITY

Our sustainability practices are deeply rooted in our mission, driven by a commitment to the health and well-being of our patients and the world we share. By aligning our operations with the natural cycles of growth and regeneration found in healthy ecosystems, we ensure that our business practices not only support our patients’ health but also contribute positively to the global environment. This interconnected approach helps us cultivate a thriving future for everyone.

WATER

Our water management strategy is reflective of nature’s efficiency, aiming to use every drop beneficially. With a comprehensive system that captures, stores, and recycles water, we maintain our cultivation processes sustainably, preventing any strain on local water resources.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

At MedCan, we deliver. See how our efforts translate into real environmental gains and explore the impact of our initiatives, one number at a time.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL

IMPACT

RAINWATER HARVESTING

32.9 kl/yr

Through our rainwater harvesting system, we collect 32,963 litres annually, reducing reliance on external water sources and supporting our sustainable resource management efforts.

RAINWATER RECAPTURE

90%

Our innovative water recapture system enables a 90% reuse rate, conserving vital resources and ensuring that our cultivation processes remain sustainable and efficient.

SOLAR POWER

>98 ton/yr

By utilising solar energy, we will reduce our carbon footprint by eliminating 98 tons of CO2 emissions annually, aligning with our commitment to renewable energy and reducing environmental impact.

REUSE & RECYCLE

Our zero-waste approach ensures that every component of our process contributes to a larger cycle of use and reuse. After harvest, used coco coir is donated to community gardens, where it improves soil quality and supports local agriculture.

Plant stems are shredded into compost, enriching the soil for future plant growth. Plastic containers are repurposed within our operations to minimise waste. Even plant trim is utilised in creating extracts and oils, ensuring that no part of the plant goes unused or is wasted.

CLIMATE

Our transition to renewable energy sources will result in a significant reduction of our carbon footprint. The installation of solar panels at our facility not only will power a substantial portion of our operations but also cuts down CO2 emissions by over 98 tons each year, marking a crucial step toward a cleaner future.

HELPING COMMUNITY
GARDENS

We support the Katlehong Community Garden as well as the JNF Walter Sisulu Environmental Centre by donating our used medium. These centres use it to enrich their soil, boosting water retention, drainage, and aeration for healthier, more abundant crops. This initiative enhances local food security, creates jobs, and enables the centres to recruit and train more people.
